Essential Questions: • How does researching multiple points of view help us understand historical events? • How does one's knowledge and experience lead to forming an opinion or taking a side in a conflict? • Why is it important to respect or understand multiple viewpoints?
Steps in the Process: • Students are assigned a famous Loyalist or Patriot to research. • Students participate in a table discussion with other Loyalists and/or Patriots. • Class discusses point of view. Long ago vs. current day debatable topics and how we develop points of view. • Students select a current day topic to research. They research the pros and cons of that topic. • Students use Google Docs to record their findings. • Students write an editorial (persuasive) piece of writing and video record themselves. • Students watch other classmates' movies and complete a reflection assignment.
